how to specify mmc device in petalinux?

Hello,

I am fighting to get Petalinux 2019.1 running on the UltraZed Starter Kit.  That kit has the ZU3EG ZynqMP part. There is an eMMC soldered onto the SOM and the carrier board provides an SD Card slot.

I want to mount my  root filesystem from the ext4 partition of SD card. I have the mode switches set to boot from the SD card. My build of U-boot comes up running.

The eMMC is mmcblk0 and the sd card is mmcblk1.  I found in another post that I needed to "setenv sdbootdev 1".  Things look good until  linux tries to mount the root filesystem on mmcblk2p2, the ext4 partition with my root filesystem.

In petalinux I set the boot device to be SD Card and then manually set the boot args to this, "earlycon clk_ignore_unused earlyprintk root=/dev/mmcblk1p2 rw rootwait cma=1024M"

In u-boot I can fatls and ext4ls the partitions of the sd card and they look correct.

Is there something more that I need to do to specify the SD card as my root filesystem device in Petalinux?

I'll post my boot log below.  I also attach the readme.md file I use as instructions to build Petalinux for the Ultrazed.

You can set the bootargs in device tree itself inorder to pick the rootfs from sdcard 2nd partition & build.

Please add this below chnages in your system-user.dtsi file.

I tried setting the bootargs as you suggest within the petalinux-config menu but still could not get linux to mount the sd card as root filesystem. I was able to get this to work in a different way that may have accomplished the same effect.

I took the last known working bsp for the Ultrazed Carrier Card (2018.3) and gunzipped and un-tarred it to access the system-user.dtsi file within it.

Then I started a new Petalinux project called bspproj to create a 2019.1 bsp. I copied the system-user.dtsi from the 2018.3 bsp and then packaged bspproj as a bsp.  I used the resulting .bsp file to start a new petalinux project.  It worked great the first time.

I am hoping this will be a reliable way to create viable bsp files for custom boards or for commercial boards that do not publish a bsp for a given petalinux version.

I guess it seems pll setting issue which is caused by different structure (ATF+PMUFW) between 2019.1 abd bofore.

 

It needs to modify clock driver (drivers/clk/zynqmp/divider.c).
