if you use ARCH=powerpc, one way to do this is to configure it in the flat device tree.

add something like:

                         uboot@0 {
                                label = "uboot";
                                reg = <0x0 0x100000>;
                                read-only;
                        };
                        bootenv@100000 {
                                label = "bootenv";
                                reg = <0x100000 0x40000>;
                                read-only;
                        };
                        kernel@140000 {
                                label = "kernel";
                                reg = <0x140000 0x200000>;
                                read-only;
                        };
                        initrd@340000 {
                                label = "initrd";
                                reg = <0x340000 0x200000>;
                        };
                        rootfs@540000 {
                                label = "rootfs";
                                reg = <0x540000 0x2c0000>;
                        };
                } ;

to the flash description in your *.dts file.

take care to be sector aligned.

active the respective configuration in the kernel setup.

for more information see Documentation/powerpc/booting-without-of.txt

regards,

robert
