zedboard does not mount other usb devices only a pendrive fat32 using petalinux 2017.3

After configuring and adding all the USB functions (otg, host and peripheral) in the kernel and device tree. the petalinux recognizes only the USB host (pen driver) but when I plug in a modem, webcam, sensor, etc it does display that a device has been plugged but there is no way to mount or see it in /dev/sdbx. if I do lsusb I  can see the bus information.

- So how can I read and write on other devices?

- Any suggestion on how to access the gpio just in case the usb does not work forever 

I added in the kernel all the functions by following these links

The "/dev/sdbx" is only for mount point of storage.

So, you can not find like it hen you plug in a modem, webcam, sensor, and so on.

 

Also, these devices require each driver module. Therefore you need to prepare kernel driver.

You need to prepare kernel driver source or binary from OSS or device vendor, first.

After that, you modify rootfs or script file.

I prepared well the kernel but other USB devices show only that they have been plugged in and I can see the bus addresses. so How to interact with them via USB port?

You can access target device via /dev/<device name> and kernel driver, if Linux kernel and kernel driver are loaded.

 

I suggest you to make sure start up log file, the result of "lsusb" and "ls /dev/*".

After confirmation, at least, you don't satisfy kernel driver for what you wand to use.

Would you make sure it, first ?

or

Would you share start up log file about linux and the result of "/sbin/lsmod" ?

BTW, what problem are you facing ?

It seems that you don't connect any USB device from log file and the result of some commands.

sorry for the late response

There is a LiFi receiver with a USB port. the device is from the research design lab. I would like to see it among the mounted devices so that I can get the data from it using C or C++ (serial programming).

I see.

I guess this device requires like NIC driver.

Do you have this kernel driver or firmware for linux kernel driver like WiFi driver ?

At least, if you only have source code, you need to compile it.

Also, you might have to prepare dkms.conf.

That's write, but I just started with zynq, I am not that good, could you help me with some documentations on how to do that?

 dkms.conf and kernel conf are still more explorable for me  

Btw the keyboard  fine and usb mass storage work fine.

Hi @watari thanks for your time, I appreciate it.
When the device is plugged on Windows OS it shows like usb serial(COM1, COM2, etc) which should be tty1, tty2 on linux but nothing found in all tty(s) after plugging in .

Got it about your situation.

 

BTW, I guess you need at least VCP driver as USB-UART virtual driver.

Have you already prepared it ?

If no, would you make sure it ?
