Zynq system with USB PHY and USB2LAN bridge

Jump to solution

Hey guys,

I would like to ask kindly for your input:

we are currently planing to use Zynq devices for our application.

What we need in our setup are two GigBit Ethernet interfaces and one additional 100M/10M ethernet interface.

As far as I see, the two GigE interfaces are provided by the Zynq core (with external PHYs).

How can we implement the additional interface? To use the hard ip core of the PL should be one approach,

but therefore we would need the TEMAC ip, which means license costs. Is this correct so far?

We thought of another approach:

use one of the USB interfaces of the Zynq and add an USB2LAN-bridge IC, for example LAN9500Ai. Does anyone know, if the linux kernel provides device drivers for such an approach? To realize the USB interface, there is the need for an USB PHY such as USB3320. Does the linux kernel provide/need a driver for this component too?

Please help with your input!

Thank you very much in advance!

Kind regards

Dino

Xilinx Petalinux driver does support the USB3320.

We haven't used the USB2LAN-bridge IC i.e. LAN9500Ai. please check with Microchip for kernel drivers for LAN9500Ai. I assume it will be supported as well but not sure on this.

Hi @galati,

You are correct that if you want to have a 3rd Ethernet interface, you can use TEMAC or AXI Ethernet Subsystem core on PL but you will need to purchase a license. Please check the product guides for more info on licensing:

I will let our USB experts to comment on the USB PHY side questions.

I'm working with the same case. I use usb3320 and AX88772. But I'm a new comer. Would you share your device tree and kernel configurations of usb? Anyway, thank you!
