AXI Ethernet Subsystem

I am using the AXI Ethernet Subsystems for a SFP port. The SFP port will be connected via copper connector to a FireFly optical transceiver. For Artix 7, which propotcol shall I use 1000_BaseX or SGMII?

Re: AXI Ethernet Subsystem

Probably 1000 base X. What's on the other end of the link?

Re: AXI Ethernet Subsystem

FPGA_SFP (FPGA board) --> Copper Cable (FPGA board) --> Optical Transceiver FireFly (FPGA board) --------> Optical Cable (about 150 cm) --> Optical Transceiver (a different board)

I do not have much info about the other board, but it is an optical transceiver that we are connecting to on the other end.

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks,

Re: AXI Ethernet Subsystem

Well, it's impossible to answer the question without knowing more about the other board. The correct setting is whatever the other board expects.

Re: AXI Ethernet Subsystem

The other end is an optical firefly transceiver. Is that enough info?

Re: AXI Ethernet Subsystem

No. The question is what protocol whatever is on the other end is expecting. Firefly just gives you O-E and E-O. On the other end will be a another chip of some sort with a SERDES and some logic behind that. What is that logic expecting? Is that another FPGA? Is it a standard network interface, such as a switch chip? How is it going to be configured?

Re: AXI Ethernet Subsystem

It is UDP over ethernet via fiber optic cable. The specifics of the receiving device itself should not matter.

Re: AXI Ethernet Subsystem

The only specific that matters is what line protocol it expects. If the other end expects SGMII, then use SGMII. If it expects 1000 BASE-X, then use that. Nobody on this forum can tell you what you need to use without more information about the device on the other end. Alternatively, if you are unwilling or unable to provide the necessary information, there are only a couple of options...take a guess, see if it works, try another setting if it doesn't.
