Aurora, Zynq and Kintex

Jump to solution

Hello all,

It's probably a stupid question but there is no stupid answer;)

So I would like to know if it's possible to made a communication link between a ZynQ ZU4CG and a Kintex K5up based on a LVDS hardware link with Aurora software protocol ?

Thank you,

Cheers.

It really depends on the amount of effort you want to put into the "make a communication link" part of your question. The Aurora core that Xilinx provides is meant to sit atop an underlying MGT (GTX, GTP, GTR, etc.) transceiver; it provides a link control layer that makes it easier for higher-layer applications to exchange data over the link.

Ordinarily, an LVDS-based data channel doesn't require such a layer. But there's nothing stopping you from writing all of that HDL to place an Aurora-like layer on top of an LVDS connection.

@trigger

By LVDS, if you are referring to regular IOs (not GT's) then it is not possible.

Aurora only interfaces with GT IO's and the GT's have CML IO buffers.
