Aurora external clock

Hi,

I am wondering if I am able to use the PCIe reference clock (derived from the PC PCIe port ) to drive the Aurora interface on a ML555 board. I was wondering what would happen if I configured the clock source to be GTPDx and feed the input port to GTPDx to have the PCIe reference clock? Do I have to use the external clock connected to GTPDx?

Thanks and regards,

Sanka

Re: Aurora external clock

You can use a neighboring tiles REFCLK for any GTP tile.  If your Aurora channel is within 3 tiles of the actual external connection then it should work just fine.  Just remember, you have to instantiate the IBUFDS for the external clock input.  Use the output of the IBUFDS as the CLKIN for the Aurora channel GTP/X.

Otherwise, you could connect the REFCLK_OUT from the PCIe tile to a DCM/PLL and use the output of that for your Aurora channel.  It may have higher jitter, but it will probably work.
