How to use MAC address of FPGA to communicate with Ethernet PHY?

I am new to FPGA and I want to understand the interface between Ethernet connector (RJ45) and FPGA. I have read on some links that there should be one more small chip in-between and that is called Ethernet PHY, that connects with the FPGA MAC and on the otherside with RJ45 using magnetics. (Please refer to the attached image)

I want to know that if we know the MAC address of our FPGA then how can we use that to connect it to the Ethernet PHY?

Thank you

Raza

Re: How to use MAC address of FPGA to communicate with Ethernet PHY?

@raza_javed,

Have you read the xilinx TEMAC documentation?

Have you studied the example_design there and tried to implement it on an FPGA board?

Start with the latest version of PG051.

If you are using the AC701 dev board from Xilinx then the docu xtp223 is also helpful. A similar document might also be available for the Kintex series FPGA. There is a step-by-step instruction there as to how one connect b/w PC and FPGA using RJ45.
