Is Ethernet-Port connected to ARM or to programmable Logic? (ZC706 vs. Zed)

Jump to solution

We are looking to experiment with FPGAs for Ethernet Switching/Routing.

How is the Tri-Speed Ethernet Port connected in the Evaluation Kits?

My guess is that it's connected to the processor subsystem and not directly to the FPGA. Is this right?

How about the SFP+ connector?

Is it at all possible to do FPGA<->Ethernet with ZedBoard or MicroZed, or should we directly start with the ZC706 using only the SFP Port?

Thanks for your help!

Hi

Yes, the Tri-Speed Ethernet Port(PHY) is connected through the MIO pins to the ARM(PS) in Zed board and ZC706.

The SFP+ connector is connected to PL side to the FPGA and you can use the Soft Temac or PS Mac routed to the PL and to the SFP+.

Have a look at the below link.

http://zedboard.org/content/redirecting-peripherals-mio-emio

You can also use the FMC connectors to connect the soft Temacs implemented in the PL sides.

Have a look at the below links which will be useful

Using the SFP port on ZC706 is easy to design as every thing is on board.

Satish

Hi,

I am wandering if the RJ45 port connected to the ARM core as well?

Thanks
