Any solution to validate or to test a FPGA(Virtex 7 2000T) device itself?

Jump to solution

Hello,

I'm using some Virtex7 2000T devices for developing test equipments.

I'm looking for a solution to validate a Virtex7 2000T in unprogrammed status.

There is an abnormal situation.

I have two same FPGA boards, with the same bit file and microblaze firmware.

I checked the input data of each board via chipscope ILA and they are same.

But the internal output data sampled by chipscope are different between the boards.

One of two FPGAs is suspicious that it has internal broken part, and the very small part of it is malfunctioning.

I know, the FPGA was passed many tests after fab-out.

So, I'm looking for a solution to make clear this suspicious situation

to ensure that the FPGA device has no problem and no internal broken block like scan ATPG test.

If it exists, I guess it will be a JTAG application or a FPGA test design.

Do you have the solution?

Hi,

I don't think you can get any official suggestion here to test a part that bought from a distributor or Xilinx sales. As you already know, Xilinx parts past many tests before shipped out. If your test does show the part is internally misbehave or broken, you can just contact the guy who sold the part to you and ask for a RMA return.

I don't know how your test is like but what do you mean by different 'internal output data'? If you got all the timing constraints correctly added, just ask for RMA, do not waste time on this. Otherwise, check if the test program is properly designed.

To be honest, very unlikely that a part is broken when shipping to customer. I see lots of complaints that parts were broken, but it turned out that they were shorted due to improper usage.

Thanks,

Ivy

Hi,

Iguo, Thank you for your reply.

"internal output data" means the output data of a verilog module which is captured by chipscope ILA.

The input data and output data is monitored via chipscope ILA, so I say it as "internal data".

Same input data but different output data of the verilog module, this is the problem.

I know the device is weak at ESD and it can break IO of FPGA. So I captured the internal data.

As I mentioned in the first message, I know the device was passed many tests and I don't doubt about it.

But, isn't it possible that the device is broken inside by the external shock like ESD?

Some of Virtex7 2000T devices are being used for long time more than 5 years.

So I'm looking the solution or method to ensure that I (or someone) didn't break the device while using it.

If you have it, please let me know.

Thank you,

KL
