vivado 2013.4 cannot generate prom files.

You will need to use 2014.1 vivado

check the following command for spi flash

write_cfgmem -format mcs -interface spix4 -size 128 -loadbit "up 0x0 c:/main.bit" -file main.mcs

You could use the ISE Design Suite PROMGen tool to create PROM files"
Write_cfgmem is the Vivado equivalent. This will be fully supported from Vivado 2014.1.

Hope this helps.

Which version of tools are you using? This is only supported from 2014.1.

Please check this user guide(page-1246)

Hope this helps.

Hi siktap,

The  PROMGen tool in ISE, do you mean Impact?

Open IMpact, I want to generate spi flash file(mcs). At step of choose correponding bit file, there is an error like:

The specified file is nota Spartan6/sparten3e/3a/3an or virtex5/virtex6 file. Please select another file.

So if the impact can not support v7 series?

Thanks

Hi Jenny,

For all the users who are using earlier versions of 2014.1, the recommended way to generate the .mcs file from .bit file is to use promgen.

The promgen command comes integrated with impact.

Please note that impact is a free tool and doesn't need any license.

Krishna

In that case, you have to use promgen. Please see if this helps.

You should find it in the Lab Tools in the following directory.

C:\Xilinx\14.7\LabTools\LabTools\bin\nt

Hi siktap,

The website link can't be read normally? I haven't seen any info about promgen tools.

And in my directory of ISE, I haven't found LabTools.

Thanks

Hi Jenny

Promgen is not included in the Vivado installation.

It says that it is available in the Lab Tools which is a relatively small 1GB installation compared to the full ISE Suite

Hi smarell,

How to open promgen command?

I tried generate mcs file through impact, but it failed,  It seems the impact tools can't read v7 bitstream, isn' it?

Hi Jenny,

Impact tools can recognize 7-series bit files.

There shouldn't be any problem in generating the mcs file.

What error are you seeing in impact?

Krishna

Re: How to generate mcs file by vivado

I've found easy way to generate mcs file within vivado.

Write to tcl-console the following command:

cd [get_property DIRECTORY [current_project]]/[current_project].runs/impl_1
write_cfgmem -format mcs -interface bpix16 -size 32 -loadbit "up 0 [get_property top [current_fileset]].bit" -file Untitled.mcs -force

You can change it for your case, but it should match for most of them.
