How to select a flash for FPGA ?

Jump to solution

Hi Expert,

which aspect should be consider, if I want to select a compatible flash for FPGA?

I have referenced the following reference, but the flash which I select is not in this list.(The flash I select is MT25Q,and FPGA is Spartan-6).

https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx14_7/pim_r_supported_spi_bpi_proms.htm

What I want to know is that:

If I want to select a flash, what I know to consider is :

     1:Capacity:

1)The bitstream size of the FPGA device can be load into the falsh

2)If MultiBoot , need more larger

     2:Interface:

1)If I use SPI X1, the flash need to support SPI X1 mode

2)Flash CMD need compatible with FPGA configuration opcode(like 0x03 and 0xe8), as the attachment show.

3:Impact need support this Device, or need to change the environment variable .

                   https://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Configuration/V6-LX240T-SPI-flash-N25Q256-Problem/td-p/646977

Are there other aspect need to consider?

you can use the MT25Q flash, check the following AR how to program this flash

https://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/68677.html

if you are going to use multiboot then try to use the flash part which can hold the number of bitstreams you will be programming

@kkn Thanks for solving my problem.

But if MT25Q is supported by iMpact, why not update the following information? This may convenience for us to reference.

Impact tool is matured tool and there are no change requests for this tool/doc. so this is the reason there is a solution record.
