Short test

The unit failed at ICT analog test. A low impedance was detected in BGA device from net IOCTL_MGTAVTT_1V2. Can you help us please with some questionsplease?...

According the FA attached...

1. Does this impedance is normal for component?
2. Does this condition affect the functionality of the component (time life,
behavior, current consumption)?
 
I`am from Sanmina GDL Mexico...

FPGA supply can have low impedance, but that does not signify there is issue with FPGA device.

As per your test results shows there is no issues with measured voltage at net IOCTL_MGTAVTT_1V2 for FPGA device having lower resistance with respective FPGA having higher resistance. So, as per my knowledge this issue should not affect device functionality or life of device.

I have discussed this issue internally with our quality team.

Looking at the failure description and testing summary, in quality teams opinion this type of case should be probably better managed if handled by quality team through service request (one “failing” device out of an assembly lot, specific measurements on a pin, questions around reliability, no functionality issue detected, lot history could be relevant to check,…)

Anyhow, it appears clear that there are no functionality issues nor deviation between the suspect part vs a known good reference device. The only difference is in the impedance of a specific GT power supply pin IOCTL_MGTAVTT_1V2

We have no way to reply to your questions: impedance is not a parameter that we spec in datasheet as it depends merely from the conditions under which it is measured e.g. board power on/off, voltage settings, decoupling network, measuring system accuracy, …) so we can’t guarantee device reliability unless the datasheet specs are met.

The fact that there is no functionality deviation between this device and rest of tested units (101 in total) might lead to think that this impedance measurement depends on a third-party component on the same board such a capacitor or others in the decoupling filtering network.

We would suggest you the following:

1. How Sanmina isolated this to the Kintex-7?

2. Did you check the operating conditions of GTs and their tolerances of all the power supplies are within the ranges?

3 How you have ensured every component of the filter circuit works as expected? (Note 11)
