Spartan 6 XC6SLX9 family copability

Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible to change to another chip with the same package type and pin count from the same family, but different speed grade(slower -> faster) or temperature range? Due to current situation IC is not available and I have no easy way to modify software(fpga image is loaded by uboot). The image has been provided by an external company.

Will modification in FPGA image be required?

yes, perfectly normal,

   but you will probably have to re run the tools to make a new bit file for the device you select.

You can generally swap up speed grade without any problem , assuming you have good board design that does not need hold times.
