Supported EEPROMs for indirect programming

Jump to solution

I have a new Spartan 6 design and plan to use indirect programming for the SPI device. On this support page

http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx14_7/pim_c_introduction_indirect_programming.htm

there is a nice list of the supported devices. Elsewhere in the design we are using a Spansion - S25FL204K device (a 4Mb device). Since the table indicates only 32Mb - 128Mb Spansion devices are supported is it correct to assume I will have to select a different device in order to support indirect programming?

Thank you,

-Matt

Hi @mattmattmatt213

Yes, your understanding is correct.

The flashes mentioned in the link are tested and supported.

Also when you are selecting the flash, consider the bitstream length of the device you are using. You can find bitstream length of spartan 6 devices in page no. 75 of the following user guide: http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/user_guides/ug380.pdf

Thanks,

Vinay

do you have the board ready with 4 mb spi flash ??

may be you can try with skipidcode check environment variable for impact, this might help,

note that this is not officially supported

Thank you both for the response.

I have a board availible with the 4Mb spi flash and gave the XIL_IMPACT_SKIPIDCODECHECK=1 environmental variable a try. Impact will attempt the program the device, but fails during verification. I appreciate the suggestion.

Thanks again.
