Which FPGA families are the Platform Cable USB and Platform Cable USB II compatible with?

Jump to solution

Hello, everyone.

I'm looking for a USB-to-JTAG programmer for the Xilinx FPGAs and I found there are two of them: Platform Cable USB and the Platform Cable USB II. The first one is obviouly older and much cheaper than the second.

What is the real difference between both devices? Their datasheet say the suppor all Virtex and Spartan families. Does it include Virtex 7 FPGAs? What about the Kintex 7 and Zynq7000 devices? Are they supported?

Thaks for your help. I must know this to decide wich programmer to buy to get the maximum compatibilty.

Hi,

This is a Product Discontinuation Notice

The Platform Cable USB have been identified for obsolescence :(

So, I think that you should use the Platform Cable USB II.

Regards,

You should purchase the Platform Cable USB II and it will work with the 7 Series FPGAs.

------Have you tried typing your question into Google? If not you should before posting.

This is a Product Discontinuation Notice.  So, I think that you should use the Platform Cable USB II.

The original Platform Cable USB was replaced by the Platform Cable USB II to comply with RoHS (aka 'lead-free') regulations across the globe.  They are functionally identical.

I know of no instance or circumstance in which one will work and the other will not.  If you already have the older version, there is no reason to replace it with the newer version.
