XSVF programmed PROM can not boot

Hi All,

I have a board in production that was re-spined to replace the five XCF04S PROMs to one XCF32P.

The new board if programmed by iMPACT with MCS file boots OK. But if it was programmed with software through JTAG chain with XSVF file then it hangs at startup (the End of Startup bit did not set when checked with iMPACT). The software used was based on xapp058_v5.1 and was working OK with the old board.

The XSVF programmed PROM was verified with no error using iMPACT. The strange thing is if I read back the XSVF programmed PROM with iMPACT then re-program it (with iMPACT) then it boots. So it seems the MCS file used for generating the XSVF file was not a problem, iMPACT seems to have done something to the PROM that was not done by the software. Can anybody help ?

Thanks.

Re: XSVF programmed PROM can not boot

You mentioned you read the status register; what was it like? It can tell more than just not reach EOS.

Re: XSVF programmed PROM can not boot

Hi,

The iMPACT read back status is

The BAD case (programmed by software  with XSVF):

'1': Calculated checksum matches expected checksum, 020423737

Boundary-scan chain validated successfully.
'2': Reading status register contents...
CRC error : 0
Decryptor security set : 0
DCM locked : 1
DCI matched : 1
End of startup signal from Startup block : 0
status of GTS_CFG_B : 0
status of GWE : 0
status of GHIGH : 0
value of MODE pin M0 : 0
value of MODE pin M1 : 0
Value of MODE pin M2 : 0
Internal signal indicates when housecleaning is completed : 1
Value driver in from INIT pad : 1
Internal signal indicates that chip is configured : 0
Value of DONE pin : 0
Indicates when ID value written does not match chip ID : 0
Decryptor error Signal : 0
System Monitor Over-Temperature Alarm : 0

'2': IDCODE loop completed successfully 10000 times.

The GOOD case (programmed with iMPACT with either MCS or XSVF):

'1': Calculated checksum matches expected checksum, 020423737

Boundary-scan chain validated successfully.
'2': Reading status register contents...
CRC error : 0
Decryptor security set : 0
DCM locked : 1
DCI matched : 1
End of startup signal from Startup block : 1
status of GTS_CFG_B : 1
status of GWE : 1
status of GHIGH : 1
value of MODE pin M0 : 0
value of MODE pin M1 : 0
Value of MODE pin M2 : 0
Internal signal indicates when housecleaning is completed : 1
Value driver in from INIT pad : 1
Internal signal indicates that chip is configured : 1
Value of DONE pin : 1
Indicates when ID value written does not match chip ID : 0
Decryptor error Signal : 0
System Monitor Over-Temperature Alarm : 0

'2': IDCODE loop completed successfully 10000 times.
