A question about the XAPP592 (v2.0) SDI IP reference design

Jump to solution

I am looking at the XAPP592, SDO core refereance design to have a better understanding about the SMPTE SDI IP. In the reference design, I can see there are 4 sdi_rxtx module been instantiated, each of them includes a SDI IP and GTX wrapper (which is a GTX transceiver in the device).

My question is: it looks like these 4 SDI RXTX are independent, so I can only instantiate one SDI RXTX in my design if only one SDI is needed, correct?

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can instantiate only one GT if that's all you need. The xapp is intended to showcase the flexibility/capabilities of using the GT quads with multiple ref clocks so that you can do multiple channels independently to support all 3 SDI modes. If you don't need all that, you can just instantiate the one GT.
