Representation of number in float and imaginary

Hi,

     I have found online VHDL code with representation in the form 4.0531101576783148E-04, Can  anybody please tell me that what E-04 represents is it a Exponential?...

                   E represents the 10 raise to constant value. A calculator display showing the Avogadro constant in E notation.
