can we add external timer chips to get the timestamp to FPGA Virtex-5?

hi........i am doing a project on data acquisition...........


i have acquired data and stored it in memory in digital form!


now,i want to store the time stamp along with acquired data........!


how to perform the time stamp?



i am using xilinx xps-edk 12.4 and virtex-5 board(xupv5-lx110t).................!

You have already asked this question in another thread: How to read real time and store it in a variable in xps-edk?


What resolution do you need? Is 1 sec enough? If so then try this: PMOD-RTCC. If you need more resolution then use the RTC to get the initial time then use an internal timer to increment. Or you can use GPS module.
