The disadvantage is that in some industry segments, the new materials are considered unreliable due to their limited data on failure mechanisms for the varied alloys being used. Lead has been used since the Romans, so it is pretty well known in its behavior when combined with tin to make eutectic solders.
Using lead containing components may require waivers, or be prohibited, depending on what country, intended use, import or export laws.

Generally speaking, reliability is publicly covered in ug116. Details are dealt with through direct contact, often with a non disclosure agreement (NDA) in place.

There is one big disadvantage of RoHS that can be said out loud without NDA - rohs solder smells really bad.
Besides the bad smell rohs solder requires all components to withstand higher temperatures, as example some plastic connectors can melt because of RoHS soldering.
It is way harder to de-solder components with RoHS, and any manual soldering or PCB rework with RoHS solder is way more complicated.
