Generate RTL from C code using Vivado HLS

Hi All,

I want to ask whether I can use Vivado HLS to generate RTL code from Matlab C code without testbench, as Matlab doesn't generate Testbench for C Code.

Thanks,

Re: Generate RTL from C code using Vivado HLS

Hey @mgamal,

Yes, you can generate HDL code (Verilog and VHDL) from C code without any testbench via HLS.

Note that depending on the Matlab code it might require some adjustments to work well with HLS.

Also note that a testbench is always a good thing to have :)

Hope this helps,

Herbert

Re: Generate RTL from C code using Vivado HLS

As @hpoetzl has said, Matlab-to-C-to-HLS-to-HDL is not necessarily a good idea. Writing C code that works well with HLS takes a significant amount of effort, and a decent understanding of what's happening at the hardware level. Needless to say, the Matlab C code generation does not have that understanding and does not put in that effort. It'll probably work, but I suspect you'll get better performance for fewer resources by just instantiating a Microblaze core (or buying a Zynq) and running the C code on that.
