Displaying data on LCD in ARTIX 7 AC 701

Hi,

I have a 10X10 matrix and a 10X1 matrtix multiplication  hardware code that i have designed.

How can i send these inputs to the FPGA Artix 7 using VIVADO and how can i get it displayed on the lcd screen of the FPGA?Suppose lets say i have my output 10X1 matrix getting stored in a reg.

Thanks,

Sandy

Hi Sandy,

How can i send these inputs to the FPGA Artix 7

By using one of the interfaces on the ac701 (i.e. uart, pcie, ethernet, etc)

how can i get it displayed on the lcd screen of the FPGA?

The board has on-board HDMI output which could be used for that purpose. Though it's not clear what type of data is in your matrix and how you wish to display it. A 10x10 matrix representing individual pixel values will be quite small on a HD monitor/TV...

Hi @bwiec

Thank you for your reply.

I have connected the two usb cables to the desktop.

Do i need to assign pin package to all the 100 inputs that i have to send ?

Also my output matrix i sjust numbers in decimal fromat. Can i dipslay those numbers either in decimal or binary on the ARTIX 7 LCD screen? If so how?

Thanks,

Sandy

No, that's not necessary. But you need some way of sending data back and forth. One USB is for jtag so you won't be using that. The other USB will need an entire USB stack on the target so  you can pass data to the FPGA and store it some how. I think this is not what you want.

Given the nature of these questions, I'm guessing you probably want to do something simple like uart to send data back and forth serially.

Oh so if you have a matrix entry of 3 for some value, you want to actually display the character '3' ?

Well you'd need some mechanism to read the matrix values and 'convert' that to a group of pixel values and position it somewhere on the screen with the right size (this of course means you need all the hardware in place to drive the display first). You could do this a number of ways including custom hardware to do it, or build a framebuffer that you can have microblaze write to. Depends on your needs.

None of these are exactly going to be trivial tasks. You should start by doing more research and start with some example designs to get you started.

Hi @bwiec

I'm trying a simple code to implement using FPGA and  i'm having an error.

Can you tell me why i'm getting this error?

I have assigned all the pins and I/O std. But still i get this error. (below two figures)

I used auto place of the pins.

use the following tcl command nd run the bitgen again

set_property SEVERITY {Warning} [get_drc_checks NSTD-1]
set_property SEVERITY {Warning} [get_drc_checks UCIO-1]

or you can make this a tcl script and use as shown in the snapshot

Hi @kkn

I tried your method. It's still the same error.

Did i have to edit it any way because i just used the same lines which you sent.

Can you please help me on this?

Thanks,

Sandy

Hi,

Could you please explain to me how you programmed and integrate LCD display with the fpga board?

Thanks in advance!!
