SmartGuide Guide Report File

Hi,

What is the meaning of new/changed and reimplemented components in the Guide Report File generated during compilation when SmartGuide is switched on?

I have a large initial design which is first compiled without SmartGuide. Then, I inserted a 16-bit XOR in the design and recompiled it with SmartGuide switched on. The re-compilation is guided by the initial design. Based on the MAP report, the number of LUTs is increased with 16. These additional LUTs are mapped into Slices where the Flip-Flops have already been used, so the number of occupied Slices remains the same after the modification (also based on the MAP report).

The Guide Report File sais that the number of guided Components is 100% and there are no re-implemented or new/changed components. Shouldn't it report the Slices where the LUTs were mapped as changed components?

Thanks,

Tamas

Re: SmartGuide Guide Report File

SmartGuide looks at the components.  Since the LUTS were packed into a slice with the registers, the component didn't change location.  A changed component means the placement changed, not the logic inside of it changed.
