Windows 10 and ISE IMPACT 14.2 Compatibility , Upgrade Windows from 7 to 10
We have been using IMPACT 14.2 for our Contract Manufacturer (CM) for production on Windows 7 and now they want to upgrade to Windows 10 Machine. IMPACT 14.2 (and ISE 14.2) has been stable and has been working great for us and we don't want to change.
Before Contract Manufacturer buys the windows 10 machines, I would like to know if IMPACT 14.2 will work on windows 10.
Does anyone have experienced the upgrade path we are about to pursue and does 14.2 work on windows 10?

Hello @verivhdl ,
Please note that ISE tools, including iMPACT, are not supported on Windows 10 OS. The list of supported OSs for the ISE tools can be found in the following ISE Release Notes:
https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx14_7/irn.pdf
Therefore, you would most likely see issues trying to install ISE/iMPACT on window 10 machine.
If you must migrate to Windows 10, I would suggest using Vivado Hardware Manager, as Vivado tools are supported on Windows 10.0 1803 update (as well as on Win10.0 1809 Update) (64-bit)
Here is an Answer Record that may be able to help you to get ISE tools installed on Win 10 OS, however this is not guaranteed it will work for everyone: https://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/62380.html
Hope the above info is helpful.

If you just need to program FPGAs (ie iMPACT, not really using ISE) then you can install Vivado Lab Edition instead. While Vivado only supports modern chips for development, it's quite capable of talking to the older ones for prorgamming.
Otherwise, we've had success with ISE 14.7 x64 on Windows 10 x64. No guarantee that the next Windows update won't break it, of course, but for now it's OK.
