Current Vivado on Current Linux?

I just treated myself to a new computer, and installed a current Ubuntu (18.4 Bionic Beaver LTS) on it. I tried to install a current Vivado (2018.2) on it, although it is currently only supporting Ubuntu 14.4. Well, it installed, but it didn't create any start menu item for it, and I only found an article that I would have to add the start menu items manually, without even telling what menu items I would need.

1. Are there any plans to bring Vivado to a non-antique Ubuntu platform?

2. Has anyone successfully gotten this to work in a recent or even current Ubuntu?

3. Anyone who has successfully added the start menu items: Could you share what is needed?

And no, I'm not going to scrap my current Ubuntu and go back in history just to run Vivado.

Re: Current Vivado on Current Linux?

Hi @treczoks,

Vivado 2018.2 is currently supported/recommended in Ubuntu Linux 16.04.3 LTS (UG973 page no.11). If this works in any other Ubuntu versions greater than this version, then that's good news (but one might face stability/design issues moving forward because of non-recommended platform as seen based on experience).

>>1. Are there any plans to bring Vivado to a non-antique Ubuntu platform?

If there are plans to support Vivado in Ubuntu like 18.4 Bionic Beaver LTS in future, we will surely let all know.

>>2. Has anyone successfully gotten this to work in a recent or even current Ubuntu?

I do not think Xilinx have tested Vivado 2018.2 in this version of Ubuntu 18.4 to be released as supported and recommended with tool.

>>3. Anyone who has successfully added the start menu items: Could you share what is needed?

Maybe if someone in community might have, they may help us with resolution to your problem.

Thanks

Prathik
