Ok, I read somewhere that since Xilinx does not support ISE design suite tools, any associated tools for ISE suite are free.
No license required after the release of Vivado, is that correct?

Not quite. Xilinx provides free registration IDs for ISE 10.1 and earlier here (you will have to login for that). This gets you free support for chips up to the Virtex 5 and Spartan 3A DSP. For later versions of ISE (eg. 14.7, the latest) you can get support for some Virtex 6, Kintex 7, Artix 7, Zynq 7000, and Spartan 6 FPGAs via the free WebPACK license - but for the bigger Virtex 6 and Spartan 6 chips you will need a paid license.
For the bigger Kintex, Artix, and Zynq chips it makes more sense to move to Vivado anyway, either using WebPACK (for the smaller chips) or a paid license (for the rest).

These days, anyone who’d purchased a new Vivado license will automatically receive an ISE (same edition) license for free. Therefore, you'd see one license added for Vivado and separately - for ISE.
You can’t purchase an ISE license these days, as they are come free when you purchased a Vivado lic. Hope this is clear.
If further help is needed, please let me know.

Can you please tell me why I cannot see Vivado/ISE Design Suite 30-day evaluation license on the licensing site?
I see only Vivado (No ISE) Design Suite
How can I use ISE? I'm using a WARP v3 wireless platform which uses Virtex-6

We have stopped providing ISE Evaluation licenses.
You would only get ISE WebPack as a free ISE license in your account.
Only XC6VLX75T is supported in ISE 14.7 WebPACK. For other devices, please purchase a Vivado license to get an ISE license with it.

I am an instructor for basic digital electronics at Washington State Community College in Marietta, OH.
I am completely ignorant of how to use FPGA development boards.
The college has a dozen of the older National Instruments Digital FPGA boards that I would like to try to use in my course.
My understanding at this point is that at the very least, something like ISE Webpack 14.7 is needed to create project files and then iMPACT is needed to install the project to the FPGA board. Is this correct?
Does licensing permit the free usage of these in a classroom lab?
It is also my understanding that beyond Windows7 is not supported for the FPGA boards with the Spartan XC3s500E chips. Is that correct.

If the boards are XC3s500E then yes, you would need ISE. Webpack would be fine with this device.
Webpack is free for all uses, including classroom. For reference, as a University, if you need full licenses for anything else, you can apply to the Xilinx University Program. www.xilinx.com/university
About Windows 7, yes you are correct. This was the last OS to support ISE
If you have any other questions, you can direct them to the Xilinx University Program email@example.com

Do we need separate ISE license for different Virtex 6 FPGAs. For Ex. can I use the same license for XC6VLX550T devices that I use for XC6VLX240T?
