I want to purchase a vivado system generator license for the dspace, which is only compatible with Vivado 2014.4. Dspace told us that we need to wait for a couple of weeks to get an upgrade for the dspace firmware. But we have an urgent test to do. So can we use the latest Vivado system generator license for an older version (like 2014.4)?

Indeed, SysGen license is backwards compatible, so to answer your question, you can indeed use the latest Vivado system generator license for an older version (like 2014.4).
Hope this helps.

One more question, the website of system generator says the system generator standalone license can be used with Vivado webpack.
Does this mean that we don't have to purchase the entire Vivado HL System Edition? Are there any differences between the combination of Webpack+Standalone license and the System Edition?

System Edition license is valid for all of the Xilinx FPGAs. Whereas Vivado WebPACK is a device-limited version of the Vivado HL Design Edition, so only supports smaller devices (a full list can be found here: https://www.xilinx.com/products/design-tools/vivado/vivado-webpack.html#architecture). Many larger devices are not supported by the free webpack licence.
Vivado System Edition license is typically Vivado HL Design Edition + SysGen
Whereas, as stated above, Vivado WebPACK is a device-limited version of the Vivado HL Design Edition. So, "device-limited version" is key point here.
Hope the above is clear.
