Hello,

I have I problem installing Xilinx ISE 13.4

My hardware - software configuration:

MACBook Pro, running MAC OSX 10.6

VMWare Fusion 4.1.1 for Mac OS X

Red Hat Enterprise 5 VM

I download Xilinx_ISE_DS_Lin_13.4_0.87xd.3.0.tar

I do

tar xvf Xilinx_ISE_DS_Lin_13.4_0.87xd.3.0.tar

cd Xilinx_ISE_DS_Lin_13.4_0.87xd.3.0

sudo ./setup

The installation does not start, I get no installation screen, no message.

Hello,

To install I have done:

tar xvf Xilinx_ISE_DS_13.4_O.87xd.3.0.tar

cd Xilinx_ISE_DS_13.4_O.87xd.3.0
su
echo 0 >/selinux/enforce
./xsetup
cd /opt/Xilinx/
chmod -R a+rwx 13.4

During installation I get the message:

Qt: Session management error: Authentication Rejection, reason: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.

However it seems to have no impact during the installation proces.

After 98% of the installation I get

Driver installation failed/ Please check the install.

Directory /.xinstall/install.log file for more information on the cause of the installation failure

I attach the file

However, it is possible to start ise:

cd /opt/Xilinx/13.4/ISE_DS
source settings32.sh
./settings32.sh
ise &

Regards,

Joeri

Does it work if you don't run it as root? I have a vague recollection that you only need to be root to install the JTAG drivers.

From memory, X doesn't really work well when you're using sudo due to permissions/DISPLAY variables/xauth/something. Perhaps try logging in to X as root, if RHEL lets you, and then run setup?

I just installed ISE 13.4 on Fedora 13 32bit.  I needed to:

1. Download archive

2. untar

3. cd into extracted directory

4. become root

5. disable SELinux

6. run installer

7. change permissions on the installed files

ie:

(download from browser)

tar xvf Xilinx_ISE_DS_13.4_O.87xd.3.0.tar
cd Xilinx_ISE_DS_13.4_O.87xd.3.0

su

setenforce 0

./xsetup
cd /opt/Xilinx/
chmod -R a+rwx 13.4

NB be careful!  I gave global write and execute permissions to the installed files because I've previously experienced problems with permissions being too restrictive, and this is the quickest and easiest way to fix it. It is also a very blunt hammer approach, you may need to be careful about permissions in your envireonment.

I also initially had a problem that the archive I downloaded was corrupt.  Interestingly tar didn't detect the problem, but ISE didn't run after installation. Checking the MD5 of the archive showed the problem, and downloading a second time yielded a correct MD5 and successful install.

BTW Xilinx cable drivers don't work for me on Fedora 13, I use the open source drivers instead.

I get the same warning, but it doesn't matter.

Yes, the Xilinx Linux cable drivers are awful, it is claimed that they work with RHEL 5 but in your case they probably don't because your RHEL is running in a VM.  In the past I've found they wouldn't work with RHEL 5.6 inside a VirtualBox PUEL.

Anyway, that only affects the operation of the Xilinx JTAG cables. Apart from JTAG programming the tools should work fine.

If you want working Linux drivers for JTAG cables then use the open source driver instead:

Thanks.

Question:

I am working with Atlys™ Spartan-6 FPGA Development Board

Do I need to take something into account during configuration.

Regards,

Joeri

If you don't have a Xilinx JTAG adaptor and want to use the one built into the Atlys (the 'PROG' USB port), you should install Digilent Adept, which installs its own USB drivers. I haven't used it on Linux, but hopefully it's a bit less fussy.
