SDSoC Floating License

Jump to solution

Hello,

I'm planing to buy a SDSoC floating license and I have some questions about it.

1. Does this license have expiration date or version limit?

2. With purchasing SDSoC, I think there is no need for an additional Vivado or SDK license. Is this right?

3. Is there any simultaneous user number limit?

4. Is there any board or device limitations in this license?

Thanks a lot.

Kami

Re: SDSoC Floating License

Hello @kami,

Please find below the info regarding your questions:

Q1> Does this license have expiration date or version limit?

A1> Please note that the licenses do not get expired (unless this is an eval license), as they are “permanent”.

However, it will have a version limit. All of the licenses would have this in the license file.

A version limit is not an expiration date.

You can find a description of the version limit and how it works in the following answer record: http://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/33770.htm. More information is available at our Licensing FAQ page, http://www.xilinx.com/tools/faq.htm (take a look at the "Expiration and Warranty Period" section).

In my own words, all licenses are valid for 12 months’ worth of software updates. For example, if you were to purchase a license today or, just say, on 1st of March 2019, it would be valid until the end of March 2020, so it would work for any Vivado software releases that will be released before the end of March 2020.

Q2> With purchasing SDSoC, I think there is no need for an additional Vivado or SDK license. Is this right?

A2> SDSoC_Tools license that you’d receive, would contain an SDK licensing feature in it and other features, such as Simulation, Analyzer and other device (Zynq) locked features, e.g. xczu5eg, xczu9eg, XC7Z100 etc.

Therefore, you should not have any Vivado licensing issue when targeting one of these Zynq device in your design.

Please note that Xilinx offers an evaluation license for the SDSoC Environment, which you should be able to see in your available license list, i.e.:

 image.png

As a suggestion, you can obtain this evaluation license and check what features it includes and also to try out SDSoC and see what the tool will allow you or not with this license.

It is the same as a full purchased license, however the limitation is, it will expired in 60-day. After that, you’d need to purchase a license.

Q3> Is there any simultaneous user number limit?

A3> On a single/same PC, there are no limitation. However if more than one user would need to use this license, with a single seat Floating license, they will not be able to do so, as the entire seat/license will be occupied by a user who has checked it out in first. Others will have to wait for this license to be released back to the server first, before another user could use it on another PC.

Q4> Is there any board or device limitations in this license?

A4> With SDSoC you can develop a full Zynq SoC and MPSoC system with embedded C/C++/OpenCL applications, therefore the license is limited to these device only and not to any other FPGA families.

More info can be found here: https://www.xilinx.com/products/design-tools/software-zone/sdsoc.html#overview

Hope this helps.

Re: SDSoC Floating License

Hello again @anatoli,

Thank you for detailed reply.

I have two more questions.

Is the floating license of SDSoC enough for fully accessing to reVision stack?

Can I accelerate the OpenCV functions which is not covered by reVision stack with SDSoC?

Best Regards,

Kami

Hello @kami,

Yes, you only need the SDSoC license to build the design. This is explained here:

https://github.com/Xilinx/reVISION-Getting-Started-Guide/blob/master/Docs/software-tools-system-requirements.md

Hope this helps.

@kami, for your second question, please raise this question on the  SDSoC Development Environment and reVISION Stack related Xilinx forum board, https://forums.xilinx.com/t5/SDSoC-Environment-and-reVISION/bd-p/sdsoc , and they will provide you with the correct answer to this particular question.

The User Guide 1233 may by useful to you:
