Standalone Impact - without Vivado 2015.x

Jump to solution

Hi,

How can I get a standalone Impact cabable of programming Virtex7 without installing the Vivado 2015.x Webpack?

Currently I use 2015.2 under Ubuntu 14.

Is there an easy way to get only this Hardware programming part?

Background: the FPGA card is located in a server, several users access it, but the FPGA compile occurs elsewhere, so absolutely no need for the several GBytes to be wasted on Vivado.

As a work around can I use older Impact versions to program a new Virtex7 chip?

Thanks,

  Andras

Hi @csuziandras,

Download the Hardware server tools from this link:
http://www.xilinx.com/support/download/index.html/content/xilinx/en/downloadNav/vivado-design-tools/2015-2.html

If you need logic/serial IO debug, you can download the Vivado Lab Edition Tools.
These files are smaller in size.

Hi,

thanks, I tried to install it.

I got an error message:

./xsetup: /home/acsuzi/Downloads/Xilinx_HW_Server_Lin_2015.2_0626_1/tps/lnx32/jre/bin/java: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory

my OS is 64bit, which is also checked in this xsetup script:

...
# ERROR out if this installation is running on 32 bit OS # and does not support 32 bit installation if [ "$(uname -i)" != "x86_64" ]; then
...

(This maybe irrelevant, I dont know)

But the Java file that the downloaded installer contains seems to be 32-bit version:

   ./Xilinx_HW_Server_Lin_2015.2_0626_1/tps/lnx32/jre/bin/java

Do you have any suggestions how to procced with the install?

Thx,

  Andras

Hi @csuziandras,
Are you using Ubuntu 14.04? That is the only supported version I think.

Check page 9 of this link for supported OS: http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx2015_2/ug973-vivado-release-notes-install-license.pdf

@nupurs:

No, I was mistaken. On this particular server we have Fedora23.

We figured out the issue, we simply installed open-jdk for i686, so that we have the missing 32-bit packages.

Then the installer succeeded.

hi,

I have closed the issue, thx for the support.

one more thought:

run the hw_server as root, otherwise the remote connection does not work, and the app does not give any warning about the lack of root rights....
