Unable to checkout Vivado floating license

Jump to solution

Hello everyone,

Just after a bit of licensing help. We've got a floating license for Vivado System Edition (including HLS). The intention with this was that one person would be able to checkout the HLS licenses (HLS and VIVADO_HLS) while another person had other licenses (Implementation, Synthesis, Simulation, etc).

What we're seeing is that when one person is running Implementation or Synthesis (haven't tried Simulation yet) the HLS licenses cannot be checked out from the server. Vivado License Manager can still see the licenses, and it correctly shows 1 seat licensed and zero seats used (for HLS and VIVADO_HLS), but Vivado HLS reports:

@W [LIC-102] Failed to get a license [VIVADO_HLS].
@W [LIC-102] Failed to get a license [ap_opencl].
@W [LIC-102] Failed to get a license [HLS].

Is this just a configuration issue, a limitation of the Xilinx licensing system, or an intentional restriction to sell more licenses?

Thanks

Hi @evanslatyer

It is expected.

i.e., when one license feature of the package is being used by a person, the another person cannot use other license features of the same package.

Thanks,

Vinay

Hi @vuppala

Thanks very much for the reply. That's what I feared; the company we bought the license through thought that this would work. Looks like we might have to re-evaluate our needs and drop back from a single System Edition license to a Design Edition license plus a dedicated HLS license.

Cheers,

Evan
