Vivado 2013.2 won't start

Jump to solution

I have just installed Vivado 2013.2 on a win7 64bit system, and when clicking on the vivado shortcut, it goes away and does something in the background for a bit, and then comes back with the following error:

Error when launching 'C:\Xilinx\Vivado\2013.2\.\bin\vivado.bat': Launcher time out

Has anyone else seen this, or know of a possible fix?

Thanks

Neill.

The problem was that the file I downloaded had the wrong md5sum, it was the All OS Vivado & SDK installer, and I'd used the download manager.  I tried downloading the same file again using the download manager and got exactly the same wrong md5sum.  The only way I could get the file correctly was not using the downlaod manager, this then worked.

Hi,

This issues when the environment variables are not set properly. Check whether the path environmental variable was set to Xilinx install path.

Also, open Vivado from tcl shell. i.e.,

Open Vivado 2013.2 Tcl shell (Start --> All Programs --> Xilinx Design Tools --> Vivado 2013.2 -->Vivado 2013.2 Tcl shell )

start_gui

Thanks

I tried to open the gui from the tcl shell and got the following error:

null
Tcl_AsyncDelete: async handler deleted by the wrong thread

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I thought the environment variables were now set at runtime to make it easier to work with different versions of the tools.

Hi,

I just did a fresh installation of Vivado 2013.3 and got the same problem: GUI failed to open.

Suggested workaround with TCL shell did work.

Can you please tell what path envvar should be set ?

Thanks,

Evgeni

Hi,

Any update on this? I’ve always had the same problem.

What environment variable has to be set?

Thanks

What's the specific error encountered?

The launcher timeout just means that Vivado did not start within the 2 minute time period. You need to run Vivado from a command window in order to get more details about what is going wrong. Check the following AR.

I looked in the env variables and no Xilinx variables are set.  there is no XILINX_SCRIPT_LOC....

as per the batch file:

REM XIL_SCRIPT_LOC should point to script location
set XIL_SCRIPT_LOC=%~dp0
REM Remove trailing slash
set XIL_SCRIPT_LOC=%XIL_SCRIPT_LOC:~0,-1%
set XILINX_VIVADO=%XIL_SCRIPT_LOC%
set PATH=%XIL_SCRIPT_LOC%\bin;%XIL_SCRIPT_LOC%\.xinstall\bin\nt64;%PATH%
REM Unset XIL_SCRIPT_LOC
set XIL_SCRIPT_LOC=

but start up gives a "doesnt run on Windows 8"

Windows 8 is not a supported OS for Vivado for now.

Please have a look at Release Notes for supported OS.
