Re: Vivado Install Catastrophe

Jump to solution

Hi vuppala,

About your suggestions: the second one does not seem to apply and the first one does not work and makes no sense (maybe it should be taken down).

Anyway... because of this first suggestion, I uninstalled evey single instance of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable with date of 2012 or later and for both x86 and x64 (I didn't count, maybe there were 10 or more). This was probably an overkill, most likely only the 2012 x64 needed to be removed. After this the installation was able to finish.

Thank you for the help!

I'm guessing you haven't included enough information for anybody to help you.

Operating system?

Virtual machine?

Installing off local drive or network drive?

Did you try downloading installation from xilinx a second time?

 -> Windows 10
Virtual machine

Do they support windows 10 yet?  Unless you're only using Microsoft applications and browsers for social media and the like, I'd be leary about upgrading until the tools you use say they support the OS you want to upgade to. This is for all engineering tools.

Can you downgrade back to windows 8.1 or 7?

It may work on windows 10, but this is from ug973

Operating Systems

Xilinx only supports the following operating systems on x86 and x86-64 processor

architectures.

Microsoft Windows Support

• Windows 7 and 7 SP1 Professional (64-bit), English/Japanese.

• Windows 8.1 Professional (64-bit), English/Japanese.

• Vivado® Lab Edition is the only Xilinx toolset that supports Windows 7 SP1

Professional, 32-bit Operating System. Lab Edition also supports the 64-bit systems.

Linux Support

• Red Hat Enterprise Workstation 7.0 (64-bit)

• Red Hat Enterprise Workstation 6.5-6.6 (64-bit)

• Red Hat Enterprise Workstation 5.10 (64-bit)

• SUSE Linux Enterprise 11.3 and 12.0 (64-bit)

• Cent OS 6.6 and 7.0 (64-bit)

• Ubuntu Linux 14.04.2 LTS (64-bit)

• Vivado Lab Edition is the only Xilinx toolset that supports the Red Hat Enterprise

Workstation 6.5-6.6, 32-bit Operating Systems. Lab Edition also supports the 64-bit

systems.

Hi @bozinis

Did the installation complete or encountered any error after clicking on OK?

Can you share the xinstall_xxx.log file here (located C:\Users\<username>\.Xilinx\xinstall)?

FYI.. As @morgan198510 said, Windows 10 is an unsupported OS.

Thanks,

Vinay

Hi vuppala

I have attached the log. The installer is stuck at that screen in my initial post. Looking at older logs, where I preesed cancel, the next thing to appear would be:

DEBUG: p.f:? - Canceled.

Need to remove xinstall dir: C:\Xilinx\.xinstall\Vivado_2015.3

(...)

Hi @bozinis

From the log file, it looks like the issue is due to Microsoft VC++ redistributable runtime libraries.

So I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned in the following answer records:

http://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/60089.html

http://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/60111.html

Thanks,

Vinay
