Vivado license installation

Jump to solution

Hi,

I'm trying to install Vivado design Suite license but it doesn't work: when generating the bitstream I get the following error:

A valid license was not found for feature 'Implementation' and/or device 'xc7k325t'. Please run the Xilinx License Configuration Manager for assistance in determining
which features and devices are licensed for your system.

We have acquired Vivado Design Edition Node-Locked License.

I have to use Vivado 2013.4 because of compatibility problems with my design.

I have asked for a new licence in 'Manage Xilinx License' tool. The .lic file was correctlly generated. Then, again in 'Manage Xilinx License', I loaded the license. I get the message "License installation was successful", and I can see the .lic file i C:/.Xilinx/.

However, in 'Manage Licenses' tab I don't see anything regarding Vivado.

I tried to return the license and regenerate it but in the tab 'Return Licenses' I cannot select any license to return.

Has anybody have a similar problem?

Thanks in advance,

Oscar

Re: Vivado license installation

Jump to solution

Hi,

I was finally able to install the license.

Xilinx customer service has replaced my license, so that I was able to regenerate it.

The problem was that the request generation was done via XLCM (Vivado 2013.4) rather than VLM (Vivado 2014.x).

So, once the license was replaced, I created a request:

xlicclientmgr –cr new_request.xml

Then, follow the installation steps as described by Vinay before.

If the license request was not generated by command line, I had the license installation problem.

Thank you,

Oscar

Hi Oscar,

Can you attach your license file here.
Also attach xinfo here.

To run XINFO:

  1. Open a command shell and CD to the <install Dir>\Vivado\2013.1\ids_lite\ISE\bin\<OS> (where OS =nt, nt64, lin or lin64) directory.
  2. Then type, "xinfo"

Thanks,
Vinay

Re: Vivado license installation

Jump to solution

Hi Oscar,

The license file you had attached is an activation based license. Follow below steps to install it:

1. Change the extension of the license file to .xml (i.e., Xilinx.lic to Xilinx.xml)

2. Open command prompt and navigate to <Vivado_installed_directory>\2013.4\bin\unwrapped\win64.o

3. Run the command: installanchoreservice.exe xilinxd.exe Vivado-software
4. After running the command, navigate to <Vivado_installed_directory>\2013.4\bin

5. Run the command: xlicclientmgr -p <path_to_xilinx_license_file>\Xilinx.xml

6. Now run the Vivado tool without any license issues.

Thanks,
Vinay

Re: Vivado license installation

Jump to solution

Hi Vinay,

Thanks for your answer.

I cannot perform step 3 as you suggested. I got an error because the file "FNP_Act_Installer.dll" is missing in the system.

I have seen that this .dll file is in here: C:\Xilinx\Vivado\2013.4\ids_lite\ISE\lib\nt64

I've been trying to fix the problem for example by following the link:

http://www.solvusoft.com/en/files/missing-not-found-error/dll/windows/adobe-systems-incorporated/adobe-acrobat-x-pro/fnp-act-installer-dll/

But, no success so far.

Do you know whether this .dll problem is coming from my windows installation or something is wrong with Xilinx tools installation?

Thanks,
Oscar

Hi,

Before running 3rd step, set the path environment variable and then follow the steps. Below is the command to set path environmental variable:

set path=%path%;<location_of_dll_file>

Thanks,

Vinay

Re: Vivado license installation

Hi,

Step 3 is now ok:

C:\Xilinx\Vivado\2013.4\bin\unwrapped\win64.o>installanchorservice.exe xilinxd.e
xe Vivado-software
Successfully installed anchor service for publisher xilinxd.exe, product Vivado-
software

However, there is a problem when runing xlicclientmgr:

C:\Xilinx\Vivado\2013.4\bin>xlicclientmgr -p C:\Xilinx\Xilinx.xml
ERROR: API function 60009 failed, result 51314
Stored request state incorrect

Response processing failed.
The response is for a request that is no longer usable,
probably because the response has already been processed.
You can check the status of stored requests with the -listRequest command.
Exit(4) error when processing response.

Any idea of what's going on?

Thanks,

Oscar

This is error is shown when you are trying to process the activation based license on a Virtual Machine.

For now activation based licensing is not supported with Virtual Machine.

Yes you are correct.

The result in the error message is different.

Let me check once and come back to you what could be the reason for this error.

Re: Vivado license installation

Hi Vinay,

I downloaded again the .lic file from www.xilinx.com\getlicense.

Then set the extension to .xml.

However, the result is the same: I've got an error when doing step 5 of your previous post.

Is it possible to cancel the licence and regenerate it?

I cannot return the license since it is not installed in my computer.

Thanks,
Oscar

Hi Vinay,

I got this when running the command:

C:\Xilinx\Vivado\2013.4\bin>xlicclientmgr -listRequests
 SeqNo Status     Date       Time  Reference

Listed 1 of 1 composite requests.

Does it mean that I have clean something in the machine to be able to run: xlicclientmgr -p C:\Xilinx\Xilinx.xml?

Thanks,

Re: Vivado license installation

Jump to solution

Hi again,

I'm still having problems with the Vivado license we bought.

So, in order to advance with my project, I installed a "Vivado Suite 30-Day Evaluation Node-Locked" license.

Using 'Manage Xilinx License' tool I created a 30-day evaluation licence. It is an activation based licence. However, the license file that I downloaded has the extension .lic (this is strange, right?).

Thus, I followed the steps suggested by Vinay:

1. Change the extension of the license file to .xml (i.e., Xilinx.lic to Xilinx.xml)
2. Open command prompt and navigate to <Vivado_installed_directory>\2013.4\bin\unwrapped\win64.o
3. Run the command: installanchorservice.exe xilinxd.exe Vivado-software
4. After running the command, navigate to <Vivado_installed_directory>\2013.4\bin
5. Run the command: xlicclientmgr -p <path_to_xilinx_license_file>\Xilinx.xml
6. Now run the Vivado tool without any license issues.

Now, after running xlicclientmgr everything is ok:

C:\Xilinx\Vivado\2013.4\bin>xlicclientmgr -p C:\Xilinx\VivadoDesignSuiteNoIse_30
DayEvaluation.xml
Response processed successfully. Actions were:
    Create         fulfillment "211453819"

    FLEXnet response dictionary:
COMMENT=This activation license file is generated on Wed Jul
09 09:54:46 UTC 2014

I can now generate the bitstream in Vivado. However, it is going to last only for one month.

It's a bit annoying since we have acquired the full license from Xilinx.

Since the installation process went all right with the evaluation licence, am I right to think that there was something wrong with the creation of the full license file?

If so, how can I ask Xilinx to regenerate this file?

I have tried to directly contact them in here:

http://www.xilinx.com/askx/customer_service_form.htm

But I haven't received any reply so far.

Thanks,
Oscar

Hi Vinay,

I've received a response from the customer service.

I've tried to install the license following their instructions but it didn't work. So, they told me that they will regenerate a license for me, and send it by e-mail.

I think I'll receive this e-mail next week.

They've got the feeling that the problem is coming from the license manager version, since in latest versions activation based licenses were included. Before, if understood well, there were certificate based licenses only.

Thanks,
Oscar
