Xilinx Unified installer 2020.1 fail to resume the download

Jump to solution

Hi,

I tried download Xilinx Vivado 2020.01 with Xilinx Unified installer. I selected Download Image(Install later).

Installer stopped downloading after 25G download. If I rerun the installer with same download directory, it throws below error.

Download_Error.JPG

Is the installer doesn't support download resume anymore? I tried with both Linux and Windows Installer.

Hi @divyesh.sinojiya @molivier,

This is an expected behavior. The previous versions of Vivado did support intermittent download but we had a couple of customers complaining that when they try to delete the downloaded files, the other non-xilinx related files are also getting deleted.

So for a temporary fix, we made sure that the Installer doesnt allow download in a directory which has existing files. This is just to ensure that the user doesn't lose any files. But this has come at the cost of breaking support for Resume download process.

We are working on a more proper fix which will make sure that the intermittent download process is also supported in the future releases.

So to sum it up, for 2020.1, you may need to make sure that the destination is empty before you initiate the download process.

Thanks,

Aravind.

Hello @divyesh.sinojiya ,

The download resume should still work in the same installation if the download is/was interrupted.

However, if you do a cancellation of the download process and keep the previous download and then start a new installation and if you pick the same folder/directory, the resume won’t work because there is currently a limitation set to not allow to download to the same directory.

In this case, please select a new directory to overcome this issue.

We are currently working on replacing the pop up message with an appropriate message, to avoid any confusions.

Hope this helps and apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Kind Regards,
Anatoli Curran,

Hi Aravind,

Thanks for your anwser.

Needless to say that it is very difficult to download 20-30 GB without Resume functionality.

- Start the installer and select the option "Download Image (Install Separately)
Make all your choices in this dialog as usual

- Choose an empty folder (remember this folder as %NEWFOLDER% )
   and press "Next"

- At the appearing dialog which asked you "Do you wanna create this folder?" =>
press the "Yes" button. Now you see a dialog with a overview how many GB will be
downloaded and used on the disk

If you already have a download you want to resume:

- go to the folder where the old downloaded files has been saved.
  Go into    %OLDFOLDER%/payload/

- move all the files from  %OLDFOLDER%/payload/      into the
  %NEWFOLDER%/payload/

- after this press the "Download" button

The Xilinx installer starts checking the checksum of the files and downloads the
missing one.

If you have to resume again you have to start from step 4 again.

That's it.

Hope this will help. If an admin things he could describe this better feel free to rewrite the text.

Best regards

Frank
