iMPACT Tool

Jump to solution
Hi everybody,

I need the iMPACT software to program the Xilinx Virtex 5 device embedded in the Genesys Board sold by Digilent Inc.

I have downloaded ISE Design Suite (Windows 7) from Xilinx website at the link:

Once I installed ISE Design Suite, I obtained the licence for ISE_Webpack.

However, when I open the software, I can't click on the iMPACT tool in the Tool Menu.

I have then downloaded Lab Tools from the same link and installed it, but still I can't access the iMPACT tool.

Could you help me?

Thank you!!

Giulia

Hi,

I see that you haven't opened any project. WIthout opening any project you cannot launch impact this way. YOu have to create a new project to access impact from the ISE GUI.

Thanks,
Anirudh

Hi kkn,

I can launch impact from the Menu, as you showed me (attach1)

But if I open ISE Design Suite, I don't see impact in the Tool menu (attach 2)..

Hi @holly87

Even without bitstream generation it should work , however you would have to create a new project. Check File -> New Project and create a new project. Then try to access IMPACT from this.

Thanks,
Anirudh

You need to use ISE tools to generate a bit file.

Xilinx iMpact - Linux - to generate a .svf from a .bit, XC7A100T device,
fails with "throwing an instance of 'CseRT::Cse_Exception",
after messages reporting reading the .bit and .bsd files and altering the clock.

Any ideas?

Works fine for .bit for Spartan 3 and Spartan 6 devices.

PS I was trying to post this as a new message, Xilinx say 'click new message',
but I can find no 'new message' link to click???

After some more tracing, it turns out that iIMPACT has a Xilinx undocumented (?)
environment dependency - needs HOME=/home/a - but only for the Artix, not needed for the Spartans.
