Vivado and Kria board/ K26 SOM?

Jump to solution

Low level hardware designing interested in the KV26 SOM for a project and wanted to know:

- which version of Vivado supports this

- does the webpack support it or does it come with a device locked license or would we need to purchase a Vivado license?

Thanks!

@asicguy The 2020.2.2 release was the first public release that supported the K26 and KV260. However, the K26 is not directly visible in the device catalog. You have to create a new project targeting the K26 via TCL commands. like this "create_project project_1 -part xck26-sfvc784-2LV-c". No license is required for K26.

The KV26 is very interesting, it will definitely reduce development times. Just to add to @asicguy questions.

- How soon are is the high performance Kria SoM going to be released?

- Are there going to be options for different memory size variants as the current one is only 4GB?

- Is the current KV26 SoM dimensions standard? Or going forward possibility of smaller dimensions?

- Is Xilinx making available schematics for the KV26 SoM and Starter kit to facilitate hardware integration for custom development workflows?

- For example, custom user designs based of the Xilinx Smart Camera for KV26 which do not require the DPU... Is there a Vivado project one can adapt and modify?

Thanks

@badegoke_f1 Regarding your questions, the answers are,

How soon are is the high performance Kria SoM going to be released?
[A] My guess is that this will come in the 2022 timeframe. There will be an additional carrier card released in the fall of this year.

Are there going to be options for different memory size variants as the current one is only 4GB?
[A] Not at this time.

Is the current K26 SoM dimensions standard? Or going forward possibility of smaller dimensions?
[A] There is no plan to shrink the K26, though there may be additional, smaller SOMs in the future.

Is Xilinx making available schematics for the K26 SoM and Starter kit to facilitate hardware integration for custom development workflows?
[A] The carrier card schematics are available today via the EA lounge, and yes, will be available to customers together with a custom carrier card design guide. The SOM schematics will not be released.

For example, custom user designs based of the Xilinx Smart Camera for K26 which do not require the DPU... Is there a Vivado project one can adapt and modify?
[A] Absolutely. The customer can open the Smart Camera XSA file in Vivado and modify the design to suit their requirements. They can also start a project from scratch if they want to do so.

Hi ,

Just to add one more info to what @yzhang has said,

You will not be able to see SOM part during project creation, but you can download board files from 2020.2.2 Xhub and then you will be able to target your projects to SOM directly. Below image may help
