Zynq 7000 compatibility with 8-bit DDR for custom board

We have made a Zynq 7000 based custom board where we have accidentally placed a 8-bit DDR instead of the 16-bit DDR to interface with the PS (processing system) of the Zynq7000 based FPGA. According to the user guide (UG585 , Pg 292) the selectable DDR data bus width are only 16-bit and 32-bit.

Even in the DDR controller configuration tab of the Zynq PS IP of Vivado, The software only allows me to set 16-bit or 32-bit on "Effective DRAM bus width".

So I am curious if there is any work around to interface the PS with this 8-bit data-bus DDR memory.

Re: Zynq 7000 compatibility with 8-bit DDR for custom board

Hi @nithinvarma_a

PS DDR Effective DRAM bus width is 16bit or 32bit.

If you use 8bit it may fail at Initialization/Calibartion, check if OCM can help.
