xc7z020 support QDRII+ SRAM ?

Jump to solution

Hello,

I have created project with xc7z020, -2 speed grade. Then, insert a MIG and QDRII+ is not seen in the MIG. Only DDR3 and DDR2 are there. Zynq xc7z020 with -2 speed grade does not support QDRII+?

Best Regards,

Hello @doner_t,

The reason you can't use a QDRII+ interface on that Zynq XC7Z020 device is because of a package limitation.  If you take a look at the data sheet for this range of devices you'll see that only DDR3, DDR2, and LPDDR2 are supported in the PL.

http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/data_sheets/ds187-XC7Z010-XC7Z020-Data-Sheet.pdf

The range of devices mentioned in the data sheet linked above are all *CLG packages which cannot support QDR and RLD.

Looking at this data sheet you can see that QDR and RLD is supported for these Zynq-7000 products:

http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/data_sheets/ds191-XC7Z030-XC7Z045-data-sheet.pdf

You will have to move up to a larger device in order to have access to these interface types.

Hello @ryana

What about the package makes it unable to support QDRII+? From what I see the only two differences are

1) Wire bond packaging vs flip chip packaging

2) The programmable logic equivalent is Artix vs Kintex

or possible something with GTP and GTX Transceivers but I don't yet know what these are.

Hello @bradconn114,

It's because of the flip chip packaging.  It makes it harder to get good power integrity and signal integrity with high speed interfaces like QDR and RLD which require very tight tolerances to work.
