Multiple Protocols in one GTX Quad

Jump to solution

I am currently using the Zynq-7000 (XC7Z030) SoC which has one GTX quad tile. I am planning on using one channel for a SATA 3.0 interface which leaves me with three channels. It was not clear for me if it is possible to assign another protocol like Aurora to the remaining channels. In the transceiver wizard I was not able to select a different protocol for the remaining channels once I had already SATA selected for the first channel. Is multiple protocol per quad supported? And if yes, what is the correct way to implement it?

You need to run the GT wizard multiple times for targeting different protocols.

Re: Multiple Protocols in one GTX Quad

Thank you for the quick response. The reason I brought up this question is because I remember on the Virtex5 device if I assigned one of the transceivers in a dual tile to an Aurora lane, the core would disable the remaining transceiver by default and even though there are ways to re-enable it, it was not a supported mode of operation by Xilinx. Now with the GTX Quad in the Zynq device if I assign one channel to SATA and I want to assign the remaining three channels to Aurora (possible individual lanes with seperate data) would that be a supported mode of operation?

Each gtx quad in the Zynq device will have two REFCLK inputs. Even if SATA and Aurora require different REFCLK inputs, you can still target them to the same quad.
