Artix -7 VCCINT power supply..

HI,

We are using ARTIX-7 (XC7A200T-2FFG1156I)in our application board and doing power calculation using Power Estimator latest version.

Following are doubts.

1. We designed 3A LDO output conencted to VCCINT pin of ARTIX -7 FPGA. But as per power estimator calculation is 4.8 W for VCCINT . What is means? Can you connected 3A LDO to VCCINT?

2. What is Maximum power rating of VCCINT pin in ARTIX-7 FPGA?

3. Is Xilinx Power Estimator (XPE) output of power is MAX/ TYP?

4. Can we use power estimator value to our power budget calculation?

Please suggest us.

-- In XPE, you have the option to set the Process to Maximum or Typical.

-- By setting Process to Maximum, and Tj 100 or 125 depending on grade, you can calculate worst case scenario, and thus you will get max VCCINT.

4. Can we use power estimator value to our power budget calculation?

-- Yes, you can. Refer https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx2019_2/ug440-xilinx-power-estimator.pdf to know usage of XPE. If you want to do power estimation at early stage of design, you can set the values in XPE and get approximate power calculation.

Watts is volts times amps, Xilinx quote in watts, probably as normally the heat dissipation is the worry,

Also remember , that the better the quality of the information you give the estimator, the more reliable the results will be.
Its also worth while in the estimator experimenting with the numbers you give it, to see which are the most critical to your dissipation, and the ones you need to be the most accurate with.

In addition, you should consider the power-on requirements for the XC7A200T that are described in datasheet, DS181

From Table 5 of DS181, we find the quiescent current, ICCINTQ,  for VCCINT is 328mA.   As shown in Table 6, minimum current, ICCINTMIN for power-on is ICCINTQ+340mA.  So, your VCCINT supply needs to provide at least 328+340=668mA for power-on of the XC7A200T.

@veera12743  Can you share where you referring this 4.8W value of VCCINT from in the XPE sheet? In Summary page of the XPE, the Power Supply section has VCCINT with Voltage and Total(A) current information and so you should have the current info of VCCINT.
