Kintex 7 KC705 stand-alone project

Jump to solution

hi all,

I've made a project for Kintex 7 kc705 evaluation kit. This project contains FPGA part and SDK for MicroBlaze.

Now, I'm trying to make a stand-alone project: Don't use vivado and xilinx SDK, instead, let the FPGA boot from PROM, and store the SDK source (. elf file ?) in a memory somewhere onboard.

Is there any tutorials for this or can anyone give me some hints?

Thanks a lot,

Sunny

hi all,

I found a very nice tutorial online :

How to make a stand-alone project for FPGA and MicroBlaze

link http://www.etherscope.org/archives/984

I followed it step by step in Vivado 2014.2, and it works !

regards,

sunny

@sunny This BIST tutorial can be used. Check the design creation flow here.

Only additional thing you have to do is convert .bit to .mcs and write it to flash.

hi Pratham,

By following the tutorials, i am now able to boot the FPGA from power-on. (thanks)

However, the MicroBlaze is not initiated automatically. The MicroBlaze starts to work only when I click the 'Run Debug' button in Xilinx SDK software. Is it possible to make the MicroBlaze start up at power-on? and how ?

@pratham

Thanks a lot,

Sunny

hi,

to have the microblaze initiate automatically, you need to initiatlize the application run from BRAM.

so change your linker script to have application load automatically after programming the fpga.

In page16 of this document, just replace the bootloop.elf with your hello_world application after setting the linker to have application run from BRAM

That tutorial is no longer on the web... domain expired... is there someone that has it someplace else by chance?

Thanks,
