Modbus Implementation in FPGA of Zynq 7000 SoC issue

Hi Geniuses,

I am hesitating both in decision and concept about Modbus implementaion.

Using Zynq-7000 series SoC (XC7Z007S)

I need Modbus Communication in my project but there is no controller for Modubus in the SoC.

So I have decided to implement Modbus in FPGA of the SoC.

And using BLVDS IO standard for RS-485 signaling (A,B) for physical encoding.

Issue is ..

1. Is my decision to implement Modbus in FPGA is right or there is any better option ?

2. 3.3 V is recommended for SOC IO pin. If signal of greater voltage (like 5V) comes from other-side of Modbus Device, what would happen?

    Is there any risk to damage the SoC in that case?


Please help me to get rid of these hesitations. If more information is needed, please let me know.
