SERDES speed , Kintex 70 -2 , GTX

Jump to solution

What is the max line rate of the GTX SERDES in the Kintex 70T -2,

In the Aurora GUI of Vivado 2015.2, this is 'limited' to 6.6 Gbps,

yet the product table for the K70T shows 12.5 Gbps.

http://www.xilinx.com/products/silicon-devices/fpga/kintex-7.html#producttable

would I need to use another package / part to get the GTX at 12.5 Gbps or is this a GUI feature.

Hi @drjohnsmith

The 12.5gbps max rate provided in the product table is a generic one (which is maximum data rate that can be acheivable by the specific Kintex part )

And you are correct at your understanding that 70T part can't run at 12.5gbps and 160T is the smallest part which can run at 12.5Gbps when used with -3 speed grade and in FFG676 package.

HI,

The maximum lane rate depends on the speed grade and package.

Please check ds182 table 56 for more details.

6.6 Gbps is the maximum supported line rate for the Aurora 8B/10B encoding protocol.

Thank you

knew the data had to be some where. could not see it for looking....

I'm using Aurora 64B66B, and the chip is a XC7K 70 T FBG 484 -2 in the vivado settings.

which as you say, the FB package is in that data 6.6 Gbps.

BUT :

in the link to the xilxin web site,

   http://www.xilinx.com/products/silicon-devices/fpga/kintex-7.html#producttable

it clearly states that the XC7K70T SERDES can run at 12.5,  and there is no FF package option for the 70T.

so the 70T can not actualy run at 12.5 Gbps in the packages Xilinx offer.

If I read things correct, the smalest part I could use to get 12 plus Gbps, is the XC7K160 T in the FFG676 package and use the -3 speed grade.

Thanks. It might be nice if the product table made this clear. may be a sub note , "dependent upon package and speed grade".

I'm luckily Ok, but it could catch some one else out, and that would not be best.
