Lost about Virtex-7 reference design

Jump to solution

I'm lost about what's included in a Virtex-7 "REFERENCE DESIGN" for either the VC707 Evaluation Kit or the VC709 Connectivity Kit.

Specifically, I want to design a new Virtex-7 board.  I am accustomed to "reference designs" for other big chips, where the reference design includes a schematic that I can use as a starting point.  Sometimes, the reference design even includes OrCAD files for schematic and PCB.

I'm trying to figure out if either the VC707 or VC709 includes these things.  While I do indeed intend to purchase one of these kits as well, I'm also wondering if it's possible to look at the reference design beforehand, to (1) make sure it's going the direction I want, and (2) to help decide between the two kits.  Short of that, is there a concisely written description somewhere of what's included in the reference design.  (Note that I have always had difficulty finding anything in the vast sea of millions and millions of Xilinx docs.)

I guess I'm concerned that Xilinx's use of the term "reference design" is different from mine!

(I did later find via Google https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/boards_and_kits/virtex-7/vc709_Schematic_xtp213_rev1_0.pdf as well the one for VC707.  Is there design source rather than pdf available, such as OrCAD?)

Hi @helmutforren

Check this answer record: https://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/42901.html

You have to use DxDesigner tool to open the files (vc707_Schematic_Source_rdf0151_rev1_0)

Thanks,

Vinay

Austin, Thanks. Good thing it wasn't a snake or it would have bit me. NEXT: I've downloaded vc707_Schematic_Source_rdf0151_rev1_0.zip and find a lot of content. It seems like this may be the source I'm looking for, but I don't recognize for what tool. For what design tool is this source?

Same question for you Vinay. (I don't know if you get alerts to my reply to Austin.)
