PCIE to PCIE Connection through Cable

Hello there,

I have two boards each has PCIe connector. I want to connect one to the other through a cable. Can I use any PCIe cable? Is there any signal conflict?

The cable I have 18X2 pins.

Thanks

Re: PCIE to PCIE Connection through Cable

Hi,

You would need a PCIe compliant cable that has the specific pin-out connectivity to take one set of TX to the other side RX, as well as the clock and PERST signals.  Additionally, there are PCIe Specification loss restrictions, and noise is always a factor.  We have found in practice that use of cables - such as extenders, do often lead to downtraining of the link because of SI issues.
