PS PCIe vs PL PCIe Zynq Ultrascale+ MPSoC - ZCU102

Hi,

I have ZCU102 board and need to connect NVMe SSD to it. Since ZCU102 does not have PCIe soft IP to use FMC SSD, I am thinking of getting a NVMe SSD with PCIe connection in which case I can use PS PCIe.

With this type of a setup, where PS PCIe is used for NVMe SSD connection, would it be possible to access the SSD from PL side through AXI PCIe bridge ?

Also, what are the disadvantages of using PS PCIe to connect the NVMe SSD versus FMC NVMe SSD for which I would need to buy PCIe soft IP and NVMe IP for PL side? One disadvantage I see is the BW to SSD since data processing is limited by the processor. Also, I am not sure what would be the BW reduction compared to having PL with PCIe soft IP and NVMe IP.

Thanks,

Ash

@ash1414 ,

PS PCIe to NVME SSD answer record is released https://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/76169.html . The design was tested on ZCU102 board.

The reasons for lower bandwidth are discussed in https://forums.xilinx.com/t5/PCIe-and-CPM/ZCU102-NVME-Data-Throughput/m-p/1219961 .

I dont think on ZCU102 you would be able to use PL PCIe with NVME SSD plugged in.

You can use ZCU106 for the same purpose.

Praveen
