Zynq - PS clock speed on ZC706

The PS clock speed on the ZC706 appears to by set to 666.666MHz when booting with the Xilinx supplied FSBL. The board is fitted with a XC7Z045-2FFG900C which I believe should be capable of clocking at 800MHz. The FSBL example code supplied with Vivado 2013.2 seems to set the ARM PLL according to the silicon version reported in the MCTRL register.

Is there any reason I should not modify the FSBL to ignore the silicon version and set the PLL value to give a 800MHz clock?

Thanks for you help,

Alan

a,

Nope.  You should make sure that the other rates that change will still work with the memories and peripherals (as setting the CPU frequency also changes the other rates as I understand it).

Hi Austin Lesea,

I am working on Zynq706 v1.2 board. I would like to run the cores at max speed which is specified on the manual 1 GHz.

Is there any way I can set that to 1 GHz and fasten my video codec applicaiton, because 666.666 MHz per core is less for video algorithms.

The I2C screws up when increasing frequency leading to an error which can be viewed via dmesg. If you don't use the I2C, you shouldn't have any problems upping the clock frequency to 1 GHz (although I wasn't aware it was capable of anything above 800 MHz).

To do so you'd need to set the frequency you want when generating a system and then rebuild the FSBL based on said system. Rebuilding the FSBL is necessary if you want it running at the higher clock.

Would you please kindly help to instruct how to set CPU clock to 1GHz.

Each time I set it to 1GHz in basic clocking page, it pops out the error message

""1000 is out of range{50,667}"

Please help!

Thanks a lot!

I also need to change my CPU Clock Frequency from 666.67 to 800, but once i change the FPGA bit fiel and create the fsbl and boot.bin, it does not boot. I have check the system.xml file as well and it shows 800MHz. Can you pealse help here.

Are you sure your chip supports 1GHz speed?

The ZC706 ships with a 7Z045-2 device and the maximum allowed CPU frequency is 800 MHz.

Hi,

I am also planning to work at 800 MHZ with -2 speed grade device. Is there any way to verify that its working on 800 MHz and not on 666.666 MHz? Can we take out ARM PLL Clock to outside PL to check on DSO/CRO?

Thanks
