Best way to do real time data transferring

I am working on a design where I will need to transfer 32 words from a Microblaze to a Block Memory  and 32 words from a block memory to the same Microblaze every 62.5us as part of a real time system. I am looking for ways to do this with the least amount of overhead to the Microblaze.

 

I have been looking at the AXI4 Stream FIFO and was wondering if this was the recommended solution (or is there a different recommendation?). If so, what is the easiest way to connect this to a Microblaze on one side and some sort of engine to load/unload the block memories on the other?

 

Also what is the overhead difference for the Microblaze on using the AXI Block memory vs the AXI Stream?
